How We Restore an Engine

A step-by-step look at the craftsmanship behind every Dreamwerks remanufactured long block.

1

Initial Inspection & Cleaning

Every engine starts with a thorough inspection. Most engines get a bath in a caustic cooker, but cleaner blocks go straight to the blast cabinet. Blasting cleans ports, water jackets, and every surface of carbon and rust — something caustic alone cannot do.

Sealing & Painting

After cleaning, the exterior is sealed with Ford Green paint to protect the block from corrosion and restore its original appearance. Red sealer varnish is applied inside the valve chamber for an airtight seal.

Cylinder Boring & Valve Work

Cylinders are bored with a portable boring bar to exact tolerances. Valve seats are cut, guides installed, and a complete valve job performed using modern valves. Stellite seats are installed where necessary or requested.

4

Babbitt Bearing Pour

The motor is set up with a mandril centered on it, then heated and poured with babbitt metal for the main bearings. After cooling, the mandril and sprues are removed and the bearings are bored to final specification — a skill few shops still practice.
